Double the safety on long-distance journeys: Concentration Assistant plus lane monitoring
Holiday travelling means long and monotonous journeys on the motorway or on country roads, which can tire the driver and reduce concentration. This considerably increases the risk of accidents. Even stipulated driving and resting times only provide limited protection. The AttentionGuard minimises the risk of accidents on long journeys by identifying the first signs of concentration loss and over-tiredness before critical situations arise. The AttentionGuard is based on the LaneGuard System (LGS), which uses cameras to monitor and maintain the correct spacing in the lane.
Function and operation
The AttentionGuard uses camera data from the LGS as well as other relevant information from the vehicle. A mathematical model evaluates the position of the vehicle in the lane over a particular time period, and uses this data to infer whether the driver is losing concentration or is overtired. For around ten seconds, the message ‘Break Recommended’ appears on the display, along with an audio signal and an optional haptic signal. The system activates automatically at speeds over 60 km/h and can be activated and deactivated via the LGS switch.
Whereas the LGS already issues a warning upon leaving the lane once, the AttentionGuard only reacts after the lane has been left several times and the driver's behaviour is noticeably different compared to the beginning of the journey. Both systems make a significant contribution to the safety of the driver and the passengers during long-distance journeys – not to forget during night-time trips. As accidents are actively being prevented, repair costs and downtime are also reduced. AttentionGuard plus LGS - intelligent safety with double the benefits.
